Meet our team of 6 incredibly talented, passionate and kind hearted individuals who have come together to create the LEAD dream team. We are excited to work together and combine our experience, knowledge, creativity and resourcefulness to spread the LEAD Mission.

Christopher Wertman
Founder & President
Chris Wertman founded the LEAD Foundation with hopes of spreading the positive impact of sports, health and wellness to underserved families and communities throughout the Capital District and beyond. As owner of Legacy Fitness Club he discovered the impact that sports, fitness, a safe space and good mentors can have on a child's life and future. He is determined to spread this mission to as many children and communities as possible through the LEAD Foundations work. Chris has a passion for helping others and is a proud volunteer for Saint Madeleine Sophie's Church, Make a Wish, Special Olympics, and more. He has organized and completed almost 20 fundraisers over the past 5 years and raised over $100,000 for charitable organizations since beginning Legacy Fitness Club LLC. in 2021.

Briann Barringer
Vice President
Briann Barringer is a marketing and social media expert driven by her passion for fitness, nutrition, and community service. She discovered her love for empowering youth while coaching middle school volleyball, where she relished the opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives. Eager to extend her influence and create meaningful change, Briann is excited to apply her skills and experience to support the LEAD Foundation's mission of empowering young people through sports, fitness, and mentorship. A dedicated fitness enthusiast, she firmly believes in the transformative power of health and wellness. Her commitment to helping others fuels her dedication to LEAD, and she looks forward to making a lasting difference in underserved communities.

Nataleigh Huber
Secretary
Giving back to the community was one of the major traits instilled in Nataleigh from a young age. From the early days of Legacy Fitness Club, her goal was always to give back and inspire others to do the same. She is committed to the well-being of all of those whose lives will be influenced by L.E.A.D. Nataleigh is a proud Wish Granter for Make-A-Wish Northeast New York and has volunteered with many local non-profits.

Chris Miazga
Treasurer
Chris Miazga brings three years of experience as a personal trainer and operations manager at Legacy Fitness Club. His dedication to helping individuals surpass their fitness goals and realize their potential has been a driving force in his career. In addition to his role at the club, Chris also serves as commissioner of the Legacy Basketball League, where he fosters community engagement and supports members in building both physical and personal growth.

Faith Schatzel
Fundraising Committee
Faith serves on the Board of Directors for The L.E.A.D. Foundation, where she brings her passion for community impact and dedication to helping others. She plays an active role in organizing fundraising events and initiatives that support L.E.A.D.’s mission of empowering youth and strengthening the Capital Region through health, wellness, and leadership development.

Alyssa Merola
Fundraising Committee
Alyssa is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people, both in her career and through community service. As a Juvenile Probation Officer, she is dedicated to guiding and mentoring youth toward a brighter future. She also serves as the co-commissioner of the summer basketball league at Aspire Athletics, furthering her commitment to youth development through sports. A graduate of SUNY Oswego with a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice, Alyssa is proud to be part of the L.E.A.D. Foundation, where she can extend her passion for supporting and empowering young people beyond her professional role.

Shonta Hilts
Program Director
Shonta Hilts serves on the Board of Directors for The L.E.A.D. Foundation and as one of the Program Directors for the After-School Wellness Programs in both Troy and Schenectady. With a deep passion for youth development and community health, Shonta oversees program operations, staff coordination, and student engagement ensuring each participant has a safe, supportive, and empowering experience. His leadership, energy, and commitment to making a difference have been instrumental in expanding L.E.A.D.’s impact across the Capital Region.

Josette Muamba
Program Trainer
Alyssa is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people, both in her career and through community service. Michael Berroa
Program Trainer
Mike Berroa serves as a dedicated L.E.A.D. Foundation Trainer, bringing discipline, leadership, and heart to every session. As a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserve, Mike embodies the values of service and commitment both in and out of uniform. When he’s not serving his country, he volunteers his time with L.E.A.D.’s after-school wellness programs, helping train and mentor students across Troy and Schenectady. His positive energy, teamwork, and passion for guiding youth make him an incredible role model and a vital part of the L.E.A.D. team.
